been thinking about how much of engineering work is actually just deciding who's allowed to change what. every "architecture" problem at some scale becomes a governance problem. not sure what to do with that thought yet but it keeps coming back.
a good photograph is mostly just standing in the right place long enough to notice you're already in it.
the older i get the more i think good engineering is just aggressive subtraction. everyone wants to add. the hard, unglamorous skill is deciding what doesn't get built.
spent an hour rebuilding a playlist instead of doing the thing i sat down to do. no regrets. curation is its own kind of thinking.
curiosity is expensive. it costs you the comfort of being done. still cheaper than boredom though.
